Curlin & Invasor Ranked Among Top 2007 World Thoroughbred Racehorses
The 2007 World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings (WTRR) was released Tuesday, January 15, and past Breeders’ Cup Classic winners Curlin and Invasor are ranked among the top horses in America.
Tom Robbins, chairman of the North American Ratings Committee and Vice President (Racing) of Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, highlights the two top-rated racehorses in 2007 on a dirt surface: “Invasor (ARG) (129) achieved the same rating for winning the Dubai World Cup as he had achieved in winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2006 but subsequent injury deprived him of the opportunity to improve on that performance figure. He shares the billing of top dirt horse in the world with Curlin (129), who won the Preakness Stakes and was placed in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes before winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic in the autumn, the first three year old to do so since Tiznow back in 2000.”

Robbins continues: “Rags To Riches (123) has become the first filly to win the Belmont Stakes in 102 years, and only the third in history, by defeating Curlin (129). She was equally impressive in winning the Kentucky Oaks before injury curtailed her season. These victories enabled her to be ranked top filly/mare in the world on any surface.”
Street Sense (126) became the first horse to complete the Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby double, defeating Curlin in the process before Curlin achieved narrow revenge in the Preakness Stakes.
English Channel (125) put up a performance second only to Dylan Thomas (IRE) (129) in the older male category in winning the John Deere Breeders’ Cup Turf by seven lengths. This career-best performance improved his ranking from 121, which he achieved in 2006.
