Crown of Thorns Wins Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita

Crown of Thorns ridden by jockey Victor Espinoza wins the $200,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes, an important prep race for the 2008 Kentucky Derby, at Santa Anita Park’s Cushion Track on Saturday, February 2.

Trained by Richard Mandella for B. Wayne Hughes, Crown of Thorns covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:40.76 and paid $5.40, $3.40 and $2.60. Coast Guard under jockey Rafael Bejarano placed second and returned $4 and $2.80. Reflect Times with jockey Mike Smith aboard came in third and paid $2.80 to show.
