Briecat Wins Bayakoa Handicap at Hollywood Park December 7
David and Holly Wilson’s Briecat, ridden by jockey Jon Court, wins the $150,000 Bayakoa Handicap at Hollywood Park on Sunday, December 7.
Trained by Vladimir Cerin, Briecat covered 1 1/16 miles in a stakes record of 1:40.38 and paid $28.80, $8.80 and $4.60 at odds of 13-1 as the fifth choice in the Bayakoa field of 7.
Model, under jockey Michael Baze, placed second and returned $3.20 and $2.20. Wake Up Maggie with jockey David Flores aboard came in third and paid $2.80 to show.
“She just keeps getting better and better,” race horse trainer Vladimir Cerin said. “When they win a couple in a row their mind changes and they become confident. It sure looked like Model would blow by her at the quarter pole, but all of a sudden she didn’t.”
For her fifth win, Briecat earned $90,000 in the Bayakoa Handicap boosting her career total to $226,800.
Other horses that raced in Hollywood Park’s Bayakoa Handicap in order of finish: Baroness Thatcher, Double Trouble (BRZ), Spenditallbaby and Bai and Bai. Lady Digby was scratched.
