Bittel Road Wins Woodford Reserve Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland & An Entry In The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Field
Favored Bittel Road, ridden by jockey Rajiv Maragh who replaced the injured jockey John Velazquez, wins the $200,000 Woodford Reserve Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland by a head on Sunday, October 5.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Bittel Road covered 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:44.29 and paid $4, $3 and $2.80. Driving Snow, under jockey Robby Albarado, placed second and returned $5 and $4.20. Another 1 1/4 lengths back, Ninth Client with jockey Julien Leparoux aboard came in third and paid $6 to show.
“This colt is one that we liked all along,” said race horse trainer Todd Pletcher. “He was able to break his maiden going three-quarters and go to the front doing that (on July 11) and overcame some adversity at Saratoga to win (the With Anticipation Stakes on August 29). So we knew he was a quality colt, but I thought today he was very, very good.”
Other horses that raced in Keeneland’s Woodford Reserve Bourbon Stakes in order of finish: Vaquero, Just Like Biscuit, Har D Boy, Jack Spratt, Giant Oak, Ghost Five, Dynamic Force, Appalachian Trail and Albin.
