Big Brown To Work At Aqueduct For The Monmouth Stakes September 13

Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Haskell winner Big Brown is likely to have his final breeze on Tuesday over the Aqueduct turf course as he prepares for his date in the Monmouth Stakes on September 13 at Monmouth Park.

“I’m looking to give him his final breeze on Tuesday,” said race horse trainer Rick Dutrow Jr., who conditions the 3-year-old colt by Boundary, Big Brown.  “I have permission to work him on the turf and that’s what I’d like to do.”

Big Brown had his last work over the Aqueduct turf course on September 3, breezing in 1:15 3/5.  The dual-classic winner stables at Aqueduct with the Rick Dutrow string and will van down to Monmouth Park for next Saturday’s 1 1/8 mile Monmouth Stakes turf test.

“I’m not sure yet when we’ll ship to Monmouth, but I know he’ll be ready come game day,” said race horse trainer Rick Dutrow.

With earnings of more than $3.3 million, Big Brown sports a record of six wins from seven starts.  His lone loss came in the Belmont Stakes on June 7.  Big Brown rebounded next out to win the Haskell Invitational, Monmouth Park’s signature race.

As part of the condition of the Monmouth Stakes, the purse will increase from $200,000 to $500,000 should the 2008 Kentucky Derby winner, Big Brown, start in the race.

The Monmouth Stakes will be Big Brown’s final prep for the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic on October 25 at Santa Anita Park.
