Autism Awareness Wins El Camino Real Derby at Bay Meadows
Longshot Autism Awareness, ridden by jockey Luis Contreras, won the $150,000 El Camino Real Derby (gr. III) at Bay Meadows on March 8, Saturday.
The El Camino Real Derby is the first and only stop of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Triple Crown in Bay Meadows.
Trained by Genaro Vallejo for owner Johnny Taboada, Autism Awareness covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.17 and paid $126, $46.40 and $17.60. Nikki’sgoldensteed under Jon Court came second and returned $4.60 and $3.80. Tres Borrachos with jockey Martin Garcia paid $7.20 to show.
Other three-year-old horses who also raced in the El Camino Real Derby at Bay Meadows: Pleasure Grounds, Behindatthebar, Dreamed Day, Master Daniel, Coast Guard and General Dan. Bamaha Breeze was scratched.
