Anak Nakal Wins Pennsylvania Derby at Philadelphia Park
Four Roses Thoroughbreds’ Anak Nakal, ridden by jockey Joe Bravo, wins the $1-million Pennsylvania Derby at Philadelphia Park on Monday, September 1.
Trained by Nick Zito, Anak Nakal covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.99 and paid $34.60, $15 and $8.60. A neck behind, Acai, under jockey Corey Nakatani, placed second and returned $10.40 and $6.20. Smooth Air with jockey Manoel Cruz aboard came in third and paid $4.60 to show.
The 3-year-old son of Victory Gallop from Misk, Anak Nakal won for the 3rd time in 10 starts and took a winner’s check for $532,000, boosting his earnings to $875,000.
Other horses that raced in Philadelphia Park’s Pennsylvania Derby in order of finish: Stones River, Atoned, Two Step Salsa, Tiz Now Tiz Then, You and I Forever, Alaazo, Only for Now, Ready Set, Numaany and Wishful Tomcat. Power Game was scratched.
