Adriano Takes 37th Lane’s End Stakes at Turfway Park

The A.P. Indy colt trained by Graham Motion, Adriano, won the $500,000 Lane’s End Stakes on Saturday, March 22, at Turfway Park.

Horse trainer Graham Motion had said he decided on the Lane’s End because turf horses often adapt to synthetic surfaces better than dirt. Last week, he said taking Adriano to the 2008 Kentucky Derby, on Churchill Downs’ traditional dirt surface, was unlikely.

Adriano, ridden by jockey Edgar Prado, raced 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.20 and paid $11.60, $6.40 and $4.60. Second place Halo Najib with jockey Kent Desormeaux returned $5.40 and $4. Medjool under jockey Michael Baze paid $4.80 to show.

Racecar Rhapsody came fourth in the 37th running of Turfway Park’s Lane’s End Stakes followed by Chitoz, Cannonball, Macho Again, Turf War, El Aleman, Rich Young Ruler and Duke of de Buqe. Halo’s King was scratched.
