Trainer Craig Dollase’s two entrants, Awesome Gem and Monterey Jazz, lead an eclectic lineup that includes multiple Grade I winner Tiago, the richest entrant; Go Between, the winner of this year’s Sunshine Millions Classic and the first ever Big ‘Cap starter for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, and Champs Elysees, making his first start ever on a surface other than grass for Hall of Famer Bobby Frankel, who has saddled more winners at Santa Anita than any other trainer.
The Santa Anita Handicap is the 9th race in Santa Anita Park’s March 1 card. Estimated post time is 4 pm CST. Its under card includes the 2008 Kentucky Derby prep race, the $200,000 Sham Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles (7th race), and the $300,000 Frank E. Kilroe Stakes (gr. IT) for older horses at 1 mile on turf (8th race).
