Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense is looking good for his next start, Sunday’s $500,000 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga Raceway.
The 3-year-old is gearing up for his first race since finishing second in the Preakness Stakes with an easy four-furlong workout Thursday morning.
“He went good; he did what we wanted,” Street Sense trainer Carl Nafzger said. “He handled the track beautifully. We’ll wait and see how he comes out of this work. Tomorrow we’ll make an official decision (on the Jim Dandy).”
The post position draw for the 1 1-8-mile Jim Dandy, a prep for the $1 million Travers Stakes on Aug. 25, is Friday.
After winning the Derby by 2 lengths, Street Sense was beaten by a head by Curlin in the Preakness. Nafzger and owner James Tafel then passed on the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the Triple Crown won by the filly Rags to Riches.
