Trained by Barclay Tagg, Nobiz Like Shobiz will race in the 66th running of Hollywood Derby at Hollywood Park on Sunday, November 25th. Barclay Tagg could become the first trainer to gain a consecutive win of the Hollywood Derby after shipping last year’s winner, Showing Up.
Nobiz Like Shobiz will be aiming for his fourth win in five starts since being moved to turf. He began the year on the Kentucky Derby trail, winning the Holy Bull at Gulfstream Park and the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct, before finishing tenth in the Kentucky Derby. Following a two-month layoff and a second in the Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park, he was shifted to turf and he responded with victories in the Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga, the Kent Breeders’ Cup at Delaware Park and the Jamaica Handicap at Belmont Park.
“Nobiz Like Shobiz and Showing Up are a lot alike,” said Robin Smullen, assistant to Barclay Tagg. “They’re easy to deal with, easy to gallop. They’re both laid back and very competitive.”
The homebred son of Albert The Great will have to face 10 other horses in the $500,000 Hollywood Derby (Grade I) for 3-year-olds covering 1 1/4 miles on turf.
Horses racing on the 2007 Hollywood Derby will line up as follows: Warning Zone, Twilight Meteor, Daytona, Patch of Blue, Bold Hawk, Worldly, Augment, Nobiz Like Shobiz, Ten a Penny, Mostacolli Mort, Medici Code.
