Curiously Sweet Wins Cat’s Cradle Handicap at Hollywood Park
Curiously Sweet with jockey Patrick Valenzuela aboard won the $100,000 Cat’s Cradle Handicap at Hollywood Park Friday, December 21.
The Cat’s Cradle Handicap win was the fourth in seven lifetime starts for Curiously Sweet and was worth $67,200, raising the career earnings of the 3-year-old daughter of Mud Route to $207,600.
“I had to make a move at the half-mile pole because I didn’t want to be stuck on the inside,” Patrick Valenzuela said. “When I asked her in the stretch, she picked it up nice. Never had to hit her.”
Trained by John Sadler, Curiously Sweet ran 7 1/2 furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:28.15 and paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.10. Kalookan Year ridden by jockey Mike Smith came in second and returned $4.20 and $3.20. Third place finisher Fun Logic with jockey Joseph Talamo up paid $5 to show.
Other horses participating in Hollywood Park’s Cat’s Cradle Handicap came in as follows: Purrfectly Fitting, D Pirates Marker and Swiss Current. Star Voyager and Swiss Diva were scratched.
