A.P. Arrow ridden by Ramon Dominguez won the $500,000 Clark Handicap (Grade II) with a three-quarter length victory on Friday, November 23rd at Churchill Downs.
It was A.P. Arrow’s first win since the Skip Away Handicap (Grade III) at Gulfstream Park on March 31st. In the next four races he ran, A.P. Arrow finished third in three and was sixth in the other.
The Clark Handicap win improved the career record for A. P. Arrow to 5-4-6 in 21 races and the first-place prize of $329,741 made him racing’s newest millionaire. The 5-year-old horse now has career earnings of $1,028,290.
“The horse ran very well and the team did a great job here having him ready,” A.P. Arrow’s three-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Todd Pletcher said. “He is a horse that consistently has been running well. Today he got a really good position early and I think that made the difference.”
A.P. Arrow covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.66 and paid $22.40, $10 and $5.20. Brass Hat and jockey Willie Martinez took second place and returned $13.20 and $3.20. Diamond Stripes and rider Cornelio Velasquez came in third and paid $3.20 to show.
Completing the line-up are: Istan, Fairbanks, Magna Graduate, Going Ballistic, Purim and Plug Me In.
