Horse Racing Around The World: Horse Racing in Hongkong

hongkong-horse-racingAs the only legal form of gambling in Hong Kong, betting on horse racing is by far the most popular form of recreation in the country.

Taking its roots from their former UK colonizers, horse racing in Hongkong is a world-class experience complete with celebrated horse racing events like the Hong Kong International Races, which includes the final leg of the prestigious Emirates World Racing Championships.

Millions of dollars are bet on every horse race meeting, both at the track ond off-track in the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s network of betting offices. The racing season runs from September to June and generates billions of dollars in tax income for the government.

HK betting system is pari-mutuel, with the Jockey Club guaranteed a percentage of the book. The turnover on a single day’s racing can be more than an entire year’s betting at many European or American racetracks.

There are two racecourses, Shatin Race Track and Happy Valley Race Course, which attract large and knowledgeable crowds. Champion horses, jockeys, trainers, and contenders have competed at the two tracks.

Over 700 horse races yearly run by the HKJC guarantee a lot of challenging yet profitable horse racing picks, betting odds, betting tips, betting pools, and betting strategy for many races like the Hong Kong Triple Crown and Hong Kong Derby.

The Hong Kong International Races, also known as the Turf World Championships, is an important stop for world-known jockeys and trainers as well as a gold standard for champion horses and contenders. This Hong Kong horse race consists of four international Group 1 events run at various distances: the Hong Kong Cup (2000m), the Hong Kong Mile (1600m), the Hong Kong Vase (2400m), and the Hong Kong Sprint (1200m). The HKIR is the final leg of the World Racing Championships.

Hong Kong horse racing is also active with the Asian Racing Federation and world thoroughbred and harness races like the Asian Mile Challenge and Global Sprint Challenge.
