Bluegrass Cat Favorite for $1 Million Haskell Invitational
Todd Pletcher-trained Bluegrass Cat, runner-up at two of the year’s Triple Crown races, is the favorite for Sunday’s $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park.
Despite starting from the outside of nine posts, Bluegrass Cat, saddled by John Velazquez, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite. Bluegrass Cat finished second to Barbaro at the Kentucky Derby and to Jazil at the Belmont.
It’s been eight weeks since Bluegrass Cat finished 1 lengths behind Jazil in the Belmont, a result that left both Walden and trainer Todd Pletcher optimistic about the rest of the year.
Also set for the 1 1/8-mile Grade 1 Haskell are Flashy Bull (5-1), local favorite Praying for Cash (8-1), Awfully Smart and Electrify (both 10-1), Little Cliff (20-1) and Victory Lake (30-1).
