Breeders' Cup
Distaff
David E. Hofmans Adoration went wire-to-wire in winning the first race of
Saturday's Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, the $2 million
Breeder's Cup Distaff, Presented by NEXTEL. Elloluv came in 5-lengths back,
followed by Got Koko. Adoration crossed the line in 1:49 flat with jockey
Patrick Valenzuala aboard. 1-2 favorite Sightseek finished fourth in the
seven horse field.
Breeders'
Cup Juvenile Fillies
Hall of Famer Julie Krone became the first female jockey to win a Breeders'
Cup race when she guided 2-1 favorite Halfbridled to a 2 1/2-length victory
in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Krone snapped an 0-for-14
streak in the event. Halfbridled is a daughter of Unbridled, the 1990 Kentucky
Derby winner who also won the Breeders' Cup Classic that year.
Breeders' Cup Mile
After delaying the start by refusing to load into the gate, Flaxman Holdings
homebred Six Perfections more than made up for it by storming to the front
around the far turn and rolled to victory in the $1.5 million NetJets Breeders'
Cup Mile. The victory was the second in a row for trainer Pascal Bary, who
won the Mile last year with Domedriver.
Breeders' Cup
Sprint
With the race run within three-fifths of a second off the track record,
Cajun Beat won a dash to the wire in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Sprint.
The Sprint represented the fifth win in 11 career starts for Cajun Beat,
who was bred in Kentucky by John T. L. Jones Jr. and Smoot Fahlgren.
Breeders' Cup
Filly & Mare Turf
With a wicked late kick, favored Isington prevailed a heated stretch duel
with 45-1 longshot L'Ancresse to win the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly
& Mare Turf by a neck. Yesterday, another European finished third for
a 1-2-3 sweep of the race for European-based runners. Final time for the
race was 1:59.13.
Breeders' Cup
Juvenile
Coming from off the pace, Action This Day delivered a longshot blow to the
$1.5 million Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile with shocking last-to-first
score at 26-1. Trainer Richard Mandella ran 1-2 as Minister Eric also rallied
to run second.
Breeders' Cup Turf
For the first time in Breeders' Cup history, a race ended in a dead-heat.
In a thrilling three-horse stretch drive, High Chaparral and Johar finished
on even terms, with Falbrav just a nod behind those two in the $2 million
John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf. Last year at Arlington Park, High Chaparral
kicked away to win. This time, he joined the fray between horses. Johar
was on the outside and Falbrav was along the hedge as they hit the wire
together.
Breeders' Cup
Classic
Trainer Richard Mandella won his fourth race on the Breeders' Cup World
Thoroughbred Championships card, and Alex Solis continued celebrating notching
his 4,000th win a day earlier, as Pleasantly Perfect won the $4 million
Breeders' Cup Classic, Powered by Dodge.
