Makings of a Boring Rivalry

Not even the NFL's no.1 team and the league's defending Super Bowl champions can stop this impending NFL rivalry.

The Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers don't have that much history between them. But they will still resume what could be one of the NFL's storied rivalries at the 2006 AFC championship game.

The Broncos played five AFC Championship games while the Steelers have played in nine before they met in ‘98 in an AFC Championship game at Three Rivers Stadium for a Super Bowl berth.

This year, the Denver Broncos downed the New England Patriots, ending the football dynasty they have established the last four years.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, on the other hand, shocked the Indianapolis Colts, ending what would've been the Colts' football destiny after flirting with football perfection this season.

And now, here they are again, facing-off against each other for a chance to travel to Detroit and win the most sought after title in all of football, the Super Bowl.

Too bad Peyton, I guess simply flirting with invincibility is not enough eh?

These teams kept missing each other in the playoffs before the ‘98 squabble and this year's AFC Championship game.

‘'It's odd,'' said former Pittsburgh nose tackle Joel Steed, a Denver native who knows a lot of AFC Championship history from following the Broncos.

‘'As the years change and different teams come up and down, I guess it's the natural process of how it goes,'' he added.

Well, Peyton Manning going up against Tom Brady for a chance to advance to the Super Bowl would've been nice after the former finally had what it took to beat the Patriots.

I guess we just have to be contented with a lame-ass Super Bowl XL then.
