Super Bowl Betting Crackdown? Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Anticlimactic is how everything feels these days in football, especially if your name is Peyton Manning. Ditto if you notice how the US justice leagues like to drop the words “sports betting crackdown” in time for major events like the Super Bowl.

With a month to go before XL in Detroit, Wisconsin state prosecutors just filed charges against two Super Bowl betting pools that had been raided in Appleton and Kaukauna. Your friendly, harmless, inconspicuous, small town could be next.

Never been to Appleton, WI? Harry Houdini grew up there. Unfortunately for three people belonging to Appleton's Legacy Supper Club, they could not pull a disappearing act. Seized from them was more than $100,000 in cash, alleged to be bets placed on a Super Bowl betting pool.

Copies of a betting sheet, recording 100 betting squares sold for $1,000 per square, were also discovered. The payout would have been $95,000; with a seriously whopping $5,000 going to the house. Outagamie County DA Carrie Schneider is working on the charges.

Schneider is handling a similar case in Kaukauna, WI. You might know that name from the Kaukauna brand of spreadable cheese. Or not. Apparently, the curd of milk isn't the only thing being spread from there. A Kaukauna tavern was also raided and charged for running a smaller Super Bowl betting pool.

Some thoughts to ponder: Appleton was ranked as America's top 10 most secure place to live in 2004. Kaukauna just happens to be christened as ‘The Friendly City'. Meanwhile, Vegas oddsmakers are out there making the Denver Broncos your new Super Bowl betting favorite.
